ENGS 1001

English Language Skills (1)

The students of the Associate Degree Program take this beginner English course at the first level. The course will cover the four basic language skills (Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing). Equal distribution of time is maintained to take care of the different skills. By the end of      this course, students are expected to gain competence in spoken and written English with equal      emphasis on grammar. Topics dealt with in the course are selected from everyday life to provide the students with real life situations. The main purpose of this course is to introduce students to the four basic skills of the English language, namely reading, writing, listening and speaking at the beginners’ level through blended learning methods (classroom instruction and online activities.)

Learning, Thinking and Research Skills

This course focuses on training students on acquiring academic and personal skills, represented by learning skills and the skills that fall under them that benefit the students in their university and professional life, in addition to research skills and the necessary academic and cognitive skills that they include. The course also focuses on thinking skills and the various skills they include, i.e., communication skills with others to enhance the social aspect, in addition to personal skills that help the students understand and evaluate themselves, all of which serve the students not only in their university life, but in their future professional life as well. This course aims to develop academic and personal skills and communicate with others, especially in the academic environment of the First Common Year students at King Saud University (Community College), and to apply those skills in their university and professional lives after graduation.

Professional Ethics

This course introduces the university students to professional ethics, their status in Islam, and their applications in Islamic civilization and the systems of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.  The course aims at strengthening the students’ commitment to these ethics in themselves and their work environment, since they are the most important reasons for success in their work and life. The course objectives are:

• It acquaints the university students with professional ethics, their status in Islam, their applications in Islamic civilization, their role in the success of the students’ work and life, and the extent of the interest of the systems of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in them.

• It helps the students acquire the skill of analyzing ethical phenomena occurring in the work environment and consequently be able to predict their effects and determine the students’ position on them. The students will learn the means of consolidating good ethics and the means of finding solutions to the obstacles facing their application.

• It motivates the students to be committed to professional ethics in themselves and their work environment, and make the students able to guide others to adhere to them.

Economic System of Islam

This course aims to introduce the students to the Islamic concept of economic life, as well as the patterns of behavior in systems and institutions indicated by the Sharia rules and rulings related to economic life, and the economic consequences resulting from applying that in contemporary life. The course also includes a brief comparison with other economic systems to show the distinctiveness of this economic system. The main objective of the course is to introduce the Islamic economic approach, its general principles, the foundations upon which it is based, and its contemporary applications.

Contemporary Issues

This course introduces the students to the most important contemporary issues other than the topics covered by teaching in other Islamic culture courses. This is what the students need in their specialization or practical job. The course objectives are:

• Enable the students to understand contemporary issues that occupy the society’s mind and occupy part of its thinking.

• Help the students acquire the skill of analyzing the issues that arise in their society, and become able to predict their solutions.

• Help the students learn the importance of Sharia rules and rulings that regulate contemporary issues in various areas of life.

• Develop the students’ ability to attract interest and arouse the attention of others.

• Enable the students to influence others through responding to them while adopting logical persuasion.

 

 

EPH 1202

Fitness and Health Education

This course includes the basic concepts and principles of health and physical information, and the associated skills related to personal, nutritional, physical, preventive, psychological, reproductive, and first aid health, with a focus on life situations with the aim of arousing the students’ motivation and excitement for the process of learning through the general framework of the course, and its standards and controls. This course aims to improve and raise the level of health of the individual and society, by providing them with knowledge, information, skills and attitudes, so that they become able to understand the developments and health conditions surrounding them, and apply them in their university and academic lives.
